June Christie singing her signature song, “Something Cool.”  There is a Wikipedia entry for Ms. Christie, who died in 1990, as well as many You tube videos available that feature June Christie.  She is also mention in James Gavin’s Intimate Nights–enjoy!

Thursday is the day of the week when McElrath Cabaret will feature some of our favorite cabaret blogs, websites or performers. Today we’re featuring a cabaret website called  Jack Quinn is the Publisher of the website, Jeannie Lieberman is Editor-in-Chief, Victor Gluck is Associate Editor and Chip Deffaa is Editor-at-Large.  Other illustrious writers are also on the staff listing for this website.

In Mr. Quinn’s biography, we learn that “he created TheaterScene in 2001 to be a place for independent theater and music reviews.”  The website offers an extensive events listing, as well as the following headings containing numerous articles and reviews:

  • Musicals
  • Plays
  • Music
  • Dance
  • Features
  • Interviews
  • Theatre Scene West
  • All Reviews

At the top of the home page there is also an alphabetical listing of all reviews since 2001–quite an archive of information about Broadway, off-Broadway and regional shows.

When you search under the keyword of “cabaret” at this information-packed website, you will get back a whopping 365 articles!  They include such interesting topics as “On The Town . . . With Chip Deffaa, “Hello, Gorgeous!  Leslie Kritzer Sings Jule Styne,” and “Broadway Originals 2011,” which is listed as “Part of The Town Hall’s 7th Annual Broadway Cabaret Festival.”

The Features section also contains a great deal of interesting information.  This spot has much on all of the big awards ceremonies held in New York City, including articles on the Tonys and Pulitzer Prize Plays.  Many Interviews are also included, with the most recent dating from 2006, with  Craig Lucas, Fiddler on the Roof lyricist Sheldon Harnick, and Carol Channing in the extensive lineup offered.

Just a ton of great reviews and information about what cabaret and theatre entertainers in New York City and around the country are producing–this is a website where you will want to settle in with a cup of coffee and enjoy.  For the cabaret enthusiast, I recommend!
