Welcome to McElrath Cabaret–We hope you enjoy our cabaret blog!
Here is a fun montage featuring several members of the Manhattan Association of Cabarets and Clubs–enjoy!
Thursday is the day of the week when McElrath Cabaret features some of our favorite cabaret blogs, websites or performers. Today we’re featuring a wonderful cabaret non-profit organization based in New York City, and it’s called the Manhattan Association of Cabarets and Clubs, and goes by MAC. MAC also has a fan page on Facebook (it is a closed group here, but you can ask to join the facebook page group), and a brief entry on Wikipedia. They have a MySpace page, which includes a link to their own online radio station as well. You will find their photos on Flickr, and they also have a YouTube channel.
From their website, we learn that:
MAC’s mission is to advance the art and business of live entertainment. A trade association, its activities are designed to heighten public awareness of the field’s contributions and vitality, to honor its creativity, to build its current and future audiences, and to speak out as an influential voice on behalf of MAC members and the industry at large.
Members of MAC include cabaret, comedy and jazz artists, directors, musical directors, technical directors, musicians, club owners, booking managers, composers, lyricists, journalists, publicists, artists’ managers, agents, and friends and supporters of live entertainment. The organization was created in 1983.
The current President of the Board of Directors is Lennie Watts, and the current Chairperson of the Advisory Board is Roy Sander.
A membership for individuals to MAC costs $50 per year. Some of the benefits of becoming a member of MAC include:
- Free admission to informative and entertaining seminars, classes and showcases
- Discounts on countless shows
- Discounts at local businesses and resources
- Get your own personal web space to post show information, music and video
- Exclusive access to member mailing lists
- The opportunity to vote in the annual MAC Awards
I encourage you, if you are a cabaret entertainer or an avid audience member, to check out the Manhattan Association of Cabarets and Clubs website!
