Welcome to McElrath Cabaret! We hope you enjoy our cabaret blog.
Thursday is the day of the week when McElrath Cabaret features some of our favorite cabaret blogs, websites or performers. Today we’re featuring a versatile songwriter’s website. This composer and lyricist writes songs that have been performed by Broadway stars as well as cabaret artists, and his name is Scott Alan. One of our readers mentioned him in the comments to yesterday’s post, and he was new to me, so I thought I’d share his work with you as I discovered it. (And thank you once again, Karen–you are awesome!)
Scott Alan has a new musical that is headed toward Broadway. It is called Home: The Musical, and was written with Christy Hall. In his biography on his website, he says that he studied music, theatre and voice in college, but from childhood he played piano and wrote songs. He has written an earlier musical as well, entitled Detour, and has four albums to his credit. These albums, which feature Alan’s songs sung by Broadway performers such as Shoshana Bean, Stephanie J. Block, Liz Callaway, Cheyenne Jackson, and many others, include:
- Dreaming Wide Awake: The Music of Scott Alan
- What I Wanna Be When I Grow Up
- Live–a double album set to be released this fall
And here is a fun version of another Scott Alan song–this is a vocal group called Pentatonix singing “Love, Love, Love”:
I encourage you to check out his albums and sheet music, and support him as you can. I heartily recommend the songs and songwriter Scott Alan!
