Thursday is the day of the week when we will feature some of our favorite cabaret blogs, websites or performers. Today’s blog is entitled Talkin’ Broadway, a wonderful site that explores many aspects of entertainment, which includes a section on cabaret performance.
Talkin’ Broadway has been on the Internet since 1997, and is known as “your home on the Internet for theatre news, talk and information.” The blog includes a forum format for many topics, and covers subjects with a New York as well as regional focus ranging from ”The Two of Clubs: Barbara and Scott Siegel,” Broadway reviews, Sound Advice, On the Boards, Off Broadway, New and Upcoming cast albums, book releases, and a great deal more in the extensive archive of articles, including a section for cabaret lovers entitled “Spotlight on Cabaret.” Once you get to the Cabaret link and click on it, you will discover many links to great interviews that were done with famous performers who often not only work on Broadway but also include cabaret performances in their lists of accomplishments. One such interview was with Liz Callaway, and another with Jerry Herman, for example. I particularly enjoyed an article I found at this informative site regarding the West Coast Cabaret Convention, with many comments from famous cabaret performers. Adminstrative staff for the site includes V. J. John Gillespie, Ann Miner and Mike Reynolds.
An extensive website with a great deal of content, it can seem a little overwhelming at first when you reach the homepage. However, they have included a helpful search feature that allows you to search under the particular category that you want, making it easier to narrow down the focus of the articles presented to you.
For the cabaret performer, this website is a wonderful resource to learn about current performers in the field of cabaret and hear what they have to say about the subject in their own words. It is also a vast repository of show information from many years past, so can be a good resource as you are researching your songs for your next upcoming performance. Definitely a site for which you will want to reserve a bit of time to explore, and you will find a great deal of entertaining information here. I encourage you to visit Talkin’ Broadway!
Since I mentioned Liz Callaway earlier, I’d like to include a lovely video where she sang with her sister, Ann Hampton Callaway, together harmonizing beautifully on “You’ll Never Walk Alone.”
