An interview with Stephen Sondheim, interviewed by Jeffrey Brown for PBS Newshour where they discuss Sondheim’s recent book from 2010, Finishing The Hat.  An online reference guide to all things Sondheim, a website devoted to Sondheim, and his page from The Songwriters Hall of Fame, which includes a biography–enjoy!

Thursday is the day of the week when McElrath Cabaret will feature some of our favorite cabaret blogs, websites or performers. Today we’re featuring a cabaret blog called the Cabaret Hotline Online Blog.  This is the blog for the popular Cabaret website, Cabaret Hotline Online, which we have reviewed earlier this year.  (Do you get the free newsletter?  If you love cabaret, you should.)  Stu Hamstra runs both the website and blog.  Blog entries are routinely also shared on Twitter and Facebook.

Stu Hamstra describes his blog like this:

“Stu Hamstra is the Editor/Publisher of Cabaret Hotline Online, an independent website with more than 7,200 pages of news, information and stories on cabaret, owned and maintained by Stu Hamstra, as well as a free email newsletter sent to over 3,400 subscribers all over the world. CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE is not affiliated with any club or organization. It is totally supported through advertising and membership donations. This blog is an extension of the website and newsletter.”

The blog offers announcements of event listings for upcoming cabaret shows from around the world.  There are usually four to five blog posts per day, each devoted to a new show and giving information for each, and each of which get Tweeted and posted to Facebook as well.  Recent posts include announcements for Brian D’Arcy James’s show “Under the Influence” at 54 Below in New York City, Donna Hayes in “Human Resources The Musical” in New York City, Singer/Songwriter Kristine Mills at the Metropolitan Room in New York City, “Bloody, Bloody Lennie Watts” also at the Metropolitan Room, and a discussion with cabaret reviewer Sue Matsuki and Manhattan Association of Cabarets’ Lennie Watts and Roy Sander at Don’t Tell Mama in New York City.

For the cabaret enthusiast who wants to keep up with the latest shows and performers of cabaret, I recommend Stu Hamstra’s Cabaret Hotline Online Blog!
