Welcome to McElrath Cabaret–We hope you enjoy our cabaret blog!
Here’s one of my favorite singers–Mimi Hines with “I’m The Greatest Star”–she’s wonderful, and here in this video entertaining at Feinsteins–enjoy!
Good evening! I hope you had a fantastic Thanksgiving! We did, and right before that we showed up at an open mic, and long story short, the booker for the room was there, heard us entertain, and wants to book us for a weekend in May! And I have an audition that I’m getting ready for on Saturday–yay!
Just a quick tip tonight:
Don’t be afraid to ask for help.
I don’t think anyone ever learned to become an entertainer on their own. Everyone starts somewhere, and if you are me you are never exposed to cabaret until you are an adult. It is wise to learn as much as possible, see and hear as much cabaret as possible, and when you have questions about entertaining and how things are done in cabaret, don’t be afraid to ask questions of those who are more experienced at it than you. I have been very pleasantly surprised with how generous many in the field are with giving explanations and offering help when I’ve needed it, and I am very grateful.
And now I’m off to work on some Shakespeare!
Hope these Tuesday cabaret tips help–let us know what other topics you’d like to see us cover here, and we’ll do our best to work through them!
