Cabaret Through Time Fridays at McElrath Cabaret–Two Cabaret Music Videos–Join Us!

Welcome to McElrath Cabaret–We hope you enjoy our cabaret blog!

Hello everyone–hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving yesterday.  We are so pumped–we went to a jam session we’d never been to, and by the time we were done the lady who books the room wants to hire us for a weekend next May, and we were asked to perform at a wedding reception as well!  Tomorrow I’m going to participate in a Viewpoints session–an acting method that I’ve never explored before, so no time like the present I say!  It’s getting late, I’m tired, and I think for tonight I’d like to just share two music videos that I like from a couple of versatile ladies who have been cabaret entertainers and nightclub singers in their long and illustrious careers, and I hope you enjoy them as well.

Ordinarily, Fridays are the day when we at the McElrath Cabaret Blog present blog posts in our Cabaret Through Time series. We present historical cabaret singers, entertainers, venues, writers, and musicians, and often include cabaret videos. We hope that you find them informative, and we’ll be back with another one next week!

First up is “Confessions Of A New Yorker” here sung by Portia Nelson:

Next is Charlotte Rae, whom you might remember from the tv show The Facts of Life.  She is quite a character, and here she does a live performance of “The Ballad of the Shape of Things” by Sheldon Harnick, who was in the audience the day she sang this!:

What are your favorite songs and entertainment moments from Charlotte Rae?  Have you ever heard of Ms. Nelson before?  Let us know in the comments below–we love to hear from you!
