Happy Birthday, Harold Arlen! The great Barbra Streisand, here at 21 years old and who was performing as a nightclub singer in her teens, singing an Arlen classic, “Down With Love,” on the Judy Garland Show, Episode 9 from October 1963–Enjoy!
Wednesday is the day of the week when we at McElrath Cabaret will post a cabaret blog question for the consideration of our readers. It will have something to do with cabaret, in all its many aspects. The question may take the form of a poll, to which we encourage you to respond, or it may be a question posed to the cabaret community, to which you can leave your response in the comments section at the bottom of the page.
We encourage you to send us any cabaret questions that you have that you would like us to pose to the group! You can leave a question in the comments section below, or you can email it to us at kjandathenacabaret [at]gmail.com. Just fill in the [at] with the @ symbol—we need to foil the spam bots, don’cha know.
Today’s question is this: What is your number one cabaret performance goal for next year? If you love to attend cabaret shows, what shows are on your “not to be missed” list?
For me, I want to work on honing my ability to deliver my patter in a natural, conversational manner that’s fun for the audience to hear. I come from a theatre background, and have a tendency to kind of “play” the dialogue, rather than just talking it, if I don’t watch what I am doing. And, since I can’t pick just one goal (!), I want to perform as much as is humanly possible. The shows I want to attend are numerous, but many of them will be at Tony Starlight’s, a great cabaret and music performance venue right here in Portland, Oregon!
So what is your cabaret performance goal, or what shows would you like to see? We truly look forward to your comments! We are small and just starting out, but we value each of our readers very much, and hope to entertain you and give you a place to come and learn more about cabaret, so you can reach your goals this year.
